Line Identification in the EUVE Spectrum of epsilon CMa
Abstract
The B2II star epsilon CMa shows spectral features in all three spectrometer bands of the EUVE satellite. The stellar continuum and stellar absorption lines are present in the long wavelength band. We identify numerous broadened wind absorption lines longward of the HeI 504 Angstroms ionization edge. The edge itself appears to be displaced in the redward direction due to a confluence of OIII wind lines at 507 Angstroms. In the medium wavelength band there appears strong emission in the HeII Lyalpha line, which is broadened in a manner consistent with the expected wind speed of an early B star. In addition there are lines from highly ionized species in the short wavelength band. The significance of the lines as diagnostics of the atmosphere and stellar wind is discussed.
